Rapid Prototyping of 15 Different Custom Parts for a New Industrial Automation Project

Last year, an industrial automation startup was developing a new packaging machine and needed 15 different custom CNC machined parts for their prototype. They required all parts to be delivered within 10 days to meet their testing deadline.

The client required a mix of materials (aluminum, steel, and POM plastic) and different part sizes. Many suppliers indicated it would take at least 3 weeks to complete the order.

We used our low-volume quick-turn cell for this project. Our programmers started CAM programming immediately upon receiving the CAD files, and we checked material stock to ensure all the required materials were available. We then scheduled the jobs on different machines based on part size and material, allowing multiple parts to be machined simultaneously.

We performed inspections as each part was completed to ensure quality control, rather than waiting for all parts to be finished before testing.

We delivered all 15 parts in just 8 working days, 2 days ahead of the client's deadline. The client successfully completed their prototype testing on schedule, and they have since placed an order for 50 production units. They now use PFT World for all their CNC machining needs for new product development.
